The figures show crime on many fronts show a sharp decline, but that does not apply to shoplifting. Still annually for hundreds of millions of dollars stolen from stores.
This enables Retail Netherlands. The trade association wants to tackle retail crime gets more priority of law enforcement.
From recently published CBS figures show that the number of reports of shoplifting, more than 42,000 last year has hardly diminished.
The shopkeeper ,, unfortunately not benefiting from the falling crime rates. The number of times a shoplifting was registered, is hardly decreased. And these are just the cases where reporting is done. The actual number is much higher, ” said Secretary retail crime Bert Lane Retail Netherlands.

181 euro fine

That means that a thief who is caught immediately receive a claim of 181 euros on his pants, on top of any fine or punishment of police and justice. The implementation of this scheme lies in a foundation of Retail Netherlands, which may start a collection process if the thief does not immediately come across the bridge.
Last year the scheme has been used 8,000 times. In 65 percent of cases, the thief paid directly to the retailer. In other cases, a collection process was started and nearly 80 percent of claims yet recovered from the perpetrators.
