The reasons for the price drop vam according Tennet diverse. For example, the average gas price was lower and there are three new coal plants added to the Dutch power generation park. At the same time taken a number of relatively expensive gas-fired plants in production.

International power connections

The network operator also points to the scale imports of cheaper electricity from Norway and Germany. This is made possible by a good match between the Netherlands international power connections by land and sea.

The connections with other countries provide for the need for more flexibility, reflecting the rise of renewable energy sources like solar and wind. There is little or no solar or wind energy, there must be possibilities to get the power from somewhere else.

Subsidized German electricity

Germany conducts its exports if many production instance solar energy. Netherlands benefits from it by imports of cheaper subsidized power from the cross-border connections.
