Greece still considering new loan – Financieele Dagblad (Registration)

Greece intends to still accept a new emergency loan, together with the monitoring by the International Monetary Fund

Aan the end of this year put an end to the European emergency program for Greece. The program, with a total of € 240 billion in emergency loans, was rigged at the time of the euro crisis. Many European countries prefer to see that Greece at the end of this year to accept a new loan – with corresponding supervision of the IMF – to ensure a smooth transition from the emergency program

But the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras wants to get rid of the loans and the involvement of the IMF to borrow on their own money in the capital markets.

At a meeting of representatives of the ministries of finance of the eurozone, on 27 November, the Greeks were however still tack, Bloomberg reported according to insiders. They promised to will think about a new emergency loan under IMF supervision. It would be a short-term loan.

The change would mean a blow to Prime Minister Samaras, in anticipation of the Greek presidential elections in February. The opposition namely advocates an end to the emergency. They want to just roll back reforms that Greece must take in return for emergency loans, under EU pressure, the European Central Bank and the IMF.
