Dutch economy to grow in third quarter – NU.nl

It is the tenth quarter in a row that the economy is growing, as evidenced by a first calculation of the Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS) on Tuesday.

In the first three quarters of 2016, a growth of three times the 0.7 percent measured. Compared to the third quarter of 2015, came the growth of 2.4 percent.

The growth is mainly due to the exports and consumption of households. “It is the consumer that provides for that growth. There is more electronics, such as tablets bought. In addition, we gave more to hospitality and day out,” said chief economist Peter Hein van Mulligen in a note. “Foreign tourists came more frequently to the Netherlands.”

also gave consumers more to make. Spending on services accounted for more than half of the total domestic consumption expenditure.

In the field of goods, consumers have more spent on household appliances and cars.

The mood among consumers is already almost two years positive, on a slight dip in February and march after. Over the past months, especially the koopbereidheid.

Jobs

The number of jobs of employees and self-employed increased in the third quarter of 2016 with 26,000 to a number of ten million. The number of unemployed people fell by 37,000 persons. That is the biggest werkloosheidsdaling in the past ten years. The number of vacancies increased by seven thousand.

The increase of the number of jobs was due to the increase of the number of werknemersbanen. A growth of 34.000 werknemersbanen compared to a decrease of eight thousand zelfstandigenbanen. Currently, one in five jobs in the Netherlands on a freelance basis.

for ten quarters in succession, there is job growth. From the first quarter of 2014, there are a total of 250,000 jobs added. 223.000 are werknemersbanen, 17,000 jobs are on a freelance basis.

“The number of unemployed people per vacancy has fallen to three, at the height of the crisis, there were seven,” says Van Mulligen.

Export and investment

The rise in exports fell in the third quarter lower than in the previous quarters. However, there were significantly more chemical products than a year earlier. It was mainly due to pharmaceutical products. Also there are more food, (basic)metal products and machines.

Also in the third quarter, the investments in transport equipment and dwellings of firm increased. Companies have more spent on planes, trucks, semi-trailers, and computers. They gave, however, less to cars.

The re-exports grew about twice as strong as the export of Dutch products.

CO2 emissions

The emissions of CO2 in the third quarter, 2.3 percent lower than a year earlier. It is the third quarter in a row that the CO2 emissions are lower than the economic growth. This is mainly because power plants more natural gas in place of coal used in energy production. There is also less gas used for heating buildings.

The CO2-emissions of power companies, water companies and waste management was in the third quarter, 6 percent lower than a year earlier. The emissions of the transport sector as a whole increased in the third quarter to increase by approximately 5 percent. This spong aviation look like, with a plus of more than 6 percent.

be Positive

The Dutch economy is on the rise, and also for the future if the signals are positive, says minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp on Tuesday in a comment on the latest figures.

Camp stresses that the Netherlands compared with other European countries, exceptionally well: “We grow more than twice as hard as the European average and, in a still uncertain international situation, all of 2.5 years, a solid and firm growth.”

The minister gives, inter alia, consumer confidence and producer confidence as hopeful indications for the future. However, there are still reasons to be a blow to the arm. So it is still unclear what consequences the Brexit and the policy plans of the upcoming U.s. president Donald Trump on the economy will have.
