Bankers are happy about themselves, but customers are no – NOS

Banks do not sufficiently the confidence of consumers to win, while they themselves are satisfied. That is the conclusion of the banking Code Monitoring Committee (MCCB), which the Dutch banks under the microscope took.

Since the credit crisis has the confidence that consumers have in the financial sector have a considerable dent incurred. The banks try since itself to change through codes of conduct.

for instance, in 2015 the second Code Banks recorded a sequel to a previous code of 2010. There are rules with regard to good governance and it is possible that due to error in, or to take major risks. The MCCB is an independent commission that since 2014, every year about the behavior of banks to the minister of Finance and the Dutch banking Association (NVB) reports.

In the survey asked the MCCB how bankers themselves find that they behave. The directors gave themselves an average 8,15. According to the commission, is that judgment is not entirely unjustified, and meet the banks ‘high degree” to the principles in the codes have been recorded.

However, customers are still suspicious. From a study of the NVB appears that they are the institutions an average of a 2.8 on a scale of 5. In their own bank, they have a 3.1 some more confidence.

to improve, advises the MCCB now that there is an independent advisory committee is established. Should consumer organisations and other stakeholders. Banks can then regularly with them in conversation to bridge the gap between the banks and the society to be sealed.
