Plant E-proclaimed technology pioneer – Telegraaf.nl

WAGENINGEN –

Two Dutch companies have been designated by the World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer in the category for Energy, Environment and Infrastructure. It is the company established in 2007 Wageningen Plant-E which generates electricity from natural plants and soil bacteria and Protix Biosystems from Dongen insects bred as food for example salmon and poultry

The World Economic Forum selects every year about 30 companies engaged in designing, developing and deploying new technologies, and are expected to have a major impact on business and society. This year, 49 companies were selected from ten countries. On the list that has existed since 2000, were previously companies like Google, Kickstarter, Nest, SoundCloud, Twitter and Airbnb.

Plant-E technology, according to the World Economic Forum has the potential to provide global green, clean electricity. Under the influence of sunlight, plants produce organic compounds to a part to grow, while another part is excreted through the roots. On the roots grow naturally occurring bacteria which degrade these compounds. This produces electrons Plant-E can ‘harvest’. The electricity is low voltage.

The technology Protix ensures that no fish need to be caught to perform more poultry and farmed salmon. These animals are now being fed fish meal. By fishmeal replacement insect win in the field of sustainability. The company also does not exclude that in the future Protix ‘insects qualify as a meal for people
