ATHENS (AP) – In Greece, Sunday at 6:00 am (Dutch time) the polls opened. The government holds a referendum on an agreement with the international lenders. If the Greeks vote against the proposals, the country receives no new emergency loan and the current assistance is put stop. If they vote, they have to deal with new reforms.
The Greek premier Alex Tsipras strongly opposes the agreement and aims for a no vote. Both he and the Greek Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis thinks that an agreement is possible if the Greeks say “no” to the deal. Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem warned last week that a “no” very doubtful whether Greece can remain in the eurozone.
The ten million voting Greeks can to 18:00 (Dutch time) voting. The results are expected around midnight.
