Dijsselbloem Spaniard must defeat Monday in Eurogroup Election – NU.nl

The term of the current president, minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem keeps on July 21 after 2.5 years of presidency. He wants to be reelected, but has stiff competition from the Spaniard Luis de Guindos.

At the time, Spain was the only country which did not support the election of Dijsselbloem because the country feels that Spain is divided when it comes to Brussels high posts.

The election of a president originally was already on the agenda of the previous regular meeting of the Eurogroup in June, but was postponed at the request of Spain. Greece officially because all attention deserved, unofficially to lobby even longer for their own candidate.

According to reports Spain last year in the distribution of key EU posts arranged for the Christian Democrat De Guindos is the new chairman of the euro group.

Germany would support at least the candidacy of De Guindos. Other Christian Democrat ministers would stand on the Spanish side. Dijsselbloem can count on the support of the Social Democrats.



Small Netherlands

The Spanish argument subdivision received additional support after the Dutchman Alexander Italianer was appointed the top official at the European Commission in Brussels. Spanish media were full of comments that the little Netherlands received a ‘TOPJOB’ again and the fourth largest economy in Europe, Spain, again fished next to the net.

Meanwhile Dijsselbloem praised by several ministers to his approach to the Greek crisis. The Finnish Minister Alexander Stubb labeled Dijsselbloem Sunday even as an ” excellent chairman who leads the bunch in the right direction. ” Change of president amid Greek negotiations seems undesirable and that now would work in favor of Dijsselbloem
