In one pannier go so all titles along, the Volkskrant nrc.next and De Telegraaf to the AD, even competitors.
The acquisition Persgroep / Mecom, the newspapers in thirds Delivering Netherlands. ACM:
“That other newspaper publishers are too dependent on the delivery network Persgroep / Mecom.”
The Persgroep has offered to the current agreements with other publishers, such as TMG and NRC Media to continue. These agreements are in any event for a period of ten years. That takes the ACM sufficient guarantee of a fair market for newspaper distribution.
Ads
The ACM also has an extensive analysis of the advertising market. The newspapers of the Persgroep and Wegener attract other large advertisers, according to the ACM. “Therefore they are not major competitors of each other,” the competition authority reports this afternoon. Moreover, advertisers have now enough (digital) alternatives. Also in the field of newspaper printing, there is still adequate choice in accordance with the ACM.
In a press statement explains Chris Fonteijn, CEO of ACM:
“The media landscape is changing rapidly. Fewer newspaper readers, more online news, other advertising opportunities. We assess merger or there for readers and advertisers and remains sufficient choice for the dissemination of newspapers. And that is the case, due to the further agreements made. “
The Dutch Association of Journalists (NEY) voiced last year objections that freelance journalists and press photographers, the new merged company does indeed would be too powerful. The ACM has not looked at that.
Workplaces
The Persgroep already made last year that the acquisition of Wegener hundreds of jobs will cost. Wegener works 2,200 people, including about 650 journalists. Persgroep wants to abolish included the central news of Wegener and accommodate to the AD.
