The retail sector in the third quarter, 1.2 percent more converted than in the same quarter of 2015. Sales increased for the eighth quarter in a row. Online shopping grew with a sales increase of over 14 percent more than the store sales. The shops in the food convert to 2.4 percent more. In the non-food sector was sales 0.6 per cent lower. This notifies CBS in the Kwartaalmonitor Retail.
Strong increase in sales via the internet
The internet sales are a lot harder grown than the revenue of the physical stores. Total online sales increased by 14.3 percent compared to the year before. In this period, grew the online sales of the pure online stores with 17.8 percent the strongest. In shops where the sale via the internet a secondary activity, the so-called multi-channelers, increased the online sales by 9.4 percent.
Second quarter in a row of lower sales of non-food stores
The non-food stores had in the third quarter, re-create with a lower turnover. In the second quarter, after six quarters of increasing turnover for the first time a decrease (-0,4 percent). Especially the shops that fiercely compete with online stores have to endure a lot. So decrease the conversion of shoe stores since the third quarter of 2014. Also in the third quarter of this year was 15.6 percent less converted than the same period a year earlier. The decline in revenue from stores in consumer electronics amounted to 6.2 percent in the third quarter.
With these developments, the number of physical stores in these sectors dramatically declined. The number of stores in consumer electronics declined in the same period by 8.5 per cent to 3655.
