In the first quarter of this year was about 232,000 people, 57,000 less than in the first quarter of 2015, the Central Bureau makes of Statistics ( CBS ) on Thursday.
The decline is particularly visible in 25- to 45-year olds. Under-45s long-term unemployment is slowing down. Nearly four in ten unemployed for a year or longer looking for a job.
The total amount of unemployed in the first quarter, 604,000, a decrease of 60,000 compared with a year earlier. The decrease is almost entirely due to long-term unemployed.
Women and men
Long-term unemployment is among women more than among men, with respectively 41 and 36 percent of cases.
Children under 25 are often just a short time unemployed. Of the 155,000 young people who were unemployed in the fourth quarter of 2015 was 28 percent work again in the first quarter of 2016.
Long-term unemployment is most common among 45- to 75-year olds. In the first quarter of this year, this was true for 59 percent of unemployed people over 45. That is slightly less than a year ago
The number of unemployed has been declining since the second quarter of 2014
